Join Award Winning Poet Ellen Bass and a small group of other poets and writers for a writing retreat on Maui! In our busy lives, many of us find that there isn't as much time for writing as we long for. This week will be an opportunity to delve into our writing without distractions or interruptions, to nurture the creative voice. There will be ample time for writing and time for sharing and response, hearing what our work touches in others. We'll help each other to become clearer, go deeper, express our feelings and ideas more powerfully. From beginners to experienced, all writers are welcome. Whether you are interested in poetry, fiction, nonfiction, or journal writing, this inspiring retreat will provide an opportunity to explore your truth and expand your craft.
Ellen Bass has encouraged and inspired poets and writers for thirty years and many of her students have published their work to critical acclaim. Although this workshop welcomes beginning writers, providing a safe, supportive environment, it is also appropriate for established poets and writers who are serious about taking their work to the next level. Ellen Bass is an insightful listener and guide, skilled at helping writers more fully realize their intentions.
Each morning will be devoted to writing. After lunch, we'll have free time for walking the beach, snorkeling, swimming, reading, or more writing. In the afternoon, we will meet to share our work and hear feedback. Dinners offer more opportunities to sample gourmet island cuisine and to deepen conversation with other writers.
Special Events and Activities:
We will take advantage of our unique setting by including outstanding cultural events on Maui including a Hawaiian Chant and Blessing our first evening and a performance of Ulalena at the Maui Myth and Magic Theatre on Tuesday. On Wednesday, there is no scheduled meeting, and you can choose from a wide variety of Maui activities and experiences or use the day for additional writing time. Saturday night the group will attend and participate in a Hawaiian Luau at the award winning Old Lahaina Luau.
